Grant/Funding Advice

GEEO is trying to make travel as affordable as possible for educators. Unfortunately we do not have the funding at this point to offer grants or subsidization for these trips.  We have done our best to negotiate the lowest possible fares for these programs and will cut costs further whenever possible. Until that time comes, we recommend that educators that wish to travel with us seek grants.  80% of the teacher who traveled with us to India last year had their trips fully paid for through grants.

The first thing we recommend you do is speak to your school's principle and/or professional development coordinator.  They may know of grants that your school district or state offers.  Most of our grantees in 2008 found their grants this way.

We also recommend applying for a Fund for Teachers grant,  www.fundforteachers.org. These grants can be used on GEEO trips.

In general, most grants don't announce recipients until April or later.  Our trips fill up on a first come, first serve basis.  Unfortunately we cannot hold a place for anyone that does not put a deposit down and these deposits are non-refundable unless we cancel the trip due to not having enough people.  The good news is the more expensive trips, like Tanzania, tend to fill up later in the year so chances are we will have a spot for you regardless of when you sign up.  The less expensive trips will fill up quicker because most people on those trips will not require grants.

Good luck and let GEEO know if you have applied for a grant that you plan on using on one of our trips!
